Two-time Academy Award winner Jodie Foster's new film, "The Brave One" debuted No. 1 at box office in North America this weekend as the revenge-themed thriller grossed about 14 million U.S.dollars over the three-day period, according to preliminary estimates released here Sunday.

    The Warner Bros. film about a New York radio journalist's personal revenge against street gangsters after the slaying of her beloved fiance, easily pushed western classic remake "3:10 to Yuma," starring fellow Oscar laureate Russell Crowe down to second with 9.2 million dollars, Los Angeles-base box office tracker Media By Numbers said.

    Two more new movies were in the third and fourth spots respectively, as Susan Sarandon's comedy "Woodchuck" came debuted with 9.1 million dollars, followed by Korean monster movie "Dragon Wars" with 5.4 million dollars.

    Sony Pictures coming-of-age comedy "Superbad" managed to stay in the top 5 category at box office with 5.2 million dollars over the weekend. The film with a production budget of more than 20 million dollars has already surpassed the 100-million-dollar mark since its release over one month ago.
