England calls Barry for Euro 2008 qualifiers

England coach Steve McClaren called up Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry for their Euro 2008 qualifiers on Monday after Gary Neville suffered injury in an English Premier league match.

Neville has been ruled out by an ankle injury sustained on Saturday with Manchester United.

Barry, who has played at left back for Villa this season, thus joins a squad who will play Saturday's Group E qualifier in Israel.

Barry was a second-half substitute in England's 1-0 friendly defeat by Spain last month.

England slipped to third in Group E with seven points, one behind Russia and three behind leaders Croatia.
